41 Miles Oaxaca
Oaxaca, Mexico 2021
Return to Oaxaca with the two students who had the courage to overcome fear in these times of COVID. Patty and Rey are two special people: throughout the workshop they will show all their generosity, sensitivity and spirituality. The days pass very slowly but are full of photographic and life situations. All the people we meet give us pearls of availability and compassion. During the editing phases the first shy photos slowly come out. We eat simple, tasty food that is offered to us with so much love; every meal is a delight including the trout baked in foil prepared by Victor and the delicious Neapolitan flan that Rebi, our cook from Mi Rosita, gave us with her heart for all the lunches and dinners spent enjoying her dishes. We walk a lot, more than in the past, entering and leaving cemeteries and following our huehuentones friends in the streets of the villages. They too welcome us as friends of all time. Our simple acts of generosity are reciprocated with great performances of their songs, ancestral dances and their music. The souls who came from Heaven to bring happiness and joy among the living make entire villages centers of joy and positive energy. We feel all this energy and try to convey it through our photos. I feel very proud of the images we have selected: Patty continues to deepen her vision of Dia de Muertos with unique photographs; Ray made a big leap by patiently listening to my advice. We are all three delighted with this 41-mile journey on foot that has given us so much and will remain forever in our hearts. EB
