Despite the pandemic, Ernesto and I decided to go to Mexico for the dia de muertos. Restrictions and regulations didn’t not stop us. We also toured the small mountain villages around Oaxaca, we photographed the rites, the masks (huehuentones) which, stronger than any rule, nevertheless brought their joy to the people. We ate great quesadillas and great grilled chickens. I will be back in the future to see the celebrations in their full splendor, but I believe I have seen a more intimate and ancient version of these holidays, without tourists!
