“Patience” is the key word. We are in Mexico, after all. Here, the siesta seems sometimes to stretch itself throughout the day. Nice philosophy: if there is nothing to do, then don’t do anything! But when the feast gets starting … well, then it’ll get really hot! And the same thing you will experience with the shooting. Moments of absolute stasis, all the photogenic subjects seem to be hiding (the siesta, of course). Then, the explosion. Bullfights, unbridled dances around the clock, totally pissed off bulls wildly running all over the place … and over some people too. Not to mention the processions: you’ll get two a day at least. And the fun fair, the mist in the morning, the beautiful children. A riot of photographic opportunity, so many that you will soon start feeling lost in a happy Mexican dizziness. And finally, back to quietness, but where in the hell has everybody gone to? The finger on the trigger of the Nikon is getting stiff, risking of getting tired in vain.

I will rather sit down in a bar of the main square; drink a coffee, or maybe even a good “margarita”.

Let’s wait, keeping the eyes open, my heart ready to recognize and catch the magic of the next, unavoidable, image.

Once again an encounter with life, another appointment, almost deadly, with the monster. I resisted him. But in the intimacy of dawn I saw his face, I looked at him straight in the eyes, both, terribly beautiful.

Once again, I have been devoured by him, (I let him swallow me) – (I became his for another time).

The heart of a twin soul that resists its demise. His poison is not killing me, rather the mortal idea of not being able to see a star on my skin. Photography continues to be a good pretext to continue this trip. Juan de la Cruz
